Upgrade from Associate to LPC

In Texas, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) may practice independently.

Basic licensure requirements for LPC licensure include a graduate degree in counseling (or related field) from an accredited university/college, passing the National Counseling Exam (NCE) or National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Exam (NCMHCE), complete the Texas LPC Jurisprudence Exam, pass a fingerprint background check with the agency, and complete 3,000 hours of supervised experience under the supervision of an approved LPC supervisor. There is no waiver or exception to the 3,000 hour requirement as it is mandated in statute.
