A person who has previously held a license with the Council (or its predecessors), and whose license is expired, retired, revoked, or resigned must apply for reinstatement of the license in order to re-activate the license. They may not apply for a new license of the same type they previously held.
Instructions for completing and submitting a reinstatement application can be found on the Council’s How-To Guide webpage. In addition to the completed application and fee, applicants must provide the following:
- Proof of completion of the required hours of continuing education / professional development for a standard renewal period.
- Proof of successful completion of the relevant Texas jurisprudence exam, taken no more than six months prior to the application submission.
- A written statement explaining the circumstances surrounding the expiration, revocation, or resignation of your license.
- A self-query from the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB). Reports must be received as certified reports by email or in a sealed NPDB envelope.
- A fingerprint background check. Upon submission of your application, you will receive your application summary with the fingerprint instructions. Unfortunately, by law applicants who were fingerprinted for their license previously must repeat the fingerprint background process.
Submit all documents possible with your application to ensure prompt review of your application, by attaching supporting documents electronically to the online application. Additional materials may be submitted by email through the Contact Us form on our website.
The Council will consider the following criteria when considering reinstatement of an expired, revoked, or resigned license.
- The circumstances surrounding the expiration, revocation, or resignation of the license.
- The conduct of the applicant subsequent to the expiration, revocation, or resignation of the license.
- The lapse of time since the expiration, revocation, or resignation of the license.
- The compliance with all terms and conditions imposed by the Council or a member board in any previous order.
- The applicant’s present qualification to practice the regulated profession based upon the history of related employment, service, education, or training, as well as the applicant’s continuing education since the expiration, revocation, or resignation of the license.
Please note, in the case of revocation or resignation, an application for reinstatement may not be made prior to one year after the effective date of the revocation or resignation, or longer if specified in the Council order.
