To become an LPC Supervisor in Texas, applicants must meet the eligibility requirements outlined in Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 681.72. This includes holding an unrestricted LPC license in good standing for a minimum of five years. The Board may consider time licensed in another jurisdiction toward this requirement, provided that sufficient supporting documentation is submitted.

- 40-Clock-Hour Supervision Course Certificate
- Preferred: Attach the certificate directly to your online application.
- If you’re unable to attach it, email it to: counseling@bhec.texas.gov.
- Doctoral-Level Supervision Course
- Must be a for-credit course in supervision of professional counseling or mental health services, taken at an accredited school and shown on an official transcript.
- Have school send transcript directly:

There is no expiration date for the supervision course or the doctoral-level supervision course once completed; however, proof of completion must be submitted at the time of application.
LPC Supervisor Responsibilities:
Before beginning supervision, all LPC Supervisors must review and understand the responsibilities outlined in Texas Administrative Code §681.93. All LPC Supervisors must review and understand the responsibilities outlined in Texas Administrative Code §681.93. Below are a few key responsibilities to keep in mind (this list is not exhaustive):
- Maintain an active LPC-S license in good standing.
- Submit the Supervisory Agreement Form (SAF) prior to starting supervision.
- Provide a minimum of 4 hours of supervision each month. These hours can be divided as needed to best support the supervisor and Associate. Note that LPC Associates may have no more than two LPC Supervisors on file at one time, and supervision hours can be split between them based on mutual agreement.
- Ensure the Associate complies with all legal and ethical requirements.
- Submit the Supervised Experience Documentation Form (SEDF) within 30 days after supervision ends. The form can be submitted by either the supervisor or the Associate but must be signed by both. Late submissions may lead to disciplinary action.
- Maintain accurate records of each supervision session.
- Promptly report any concerns about the Associate’s conduct, competence, or ethics to the Board.
